Helicopter incident shows how long and complicated the road is to negotiated settlement of Karabakh conflict – French ambassador

In a statement issued today the newly appointed French ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier, expressed his condolences to the families of the three Armenian crew members killed on November 12 when their helicopter was shot down by Azerbaijan, the French embassy in Yerevan said.

In a statement issued today the newly appointed French ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier, expressed his condolences to the families of the three Armenian crew members killed on November 12 when their helicopter was shot down by Azerbaijan, the French embassy in Yerevan said.
"We sincerely mourn in connection with the incident that took place on November 12 claiming the lives of three Armenian servicemen and express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” the ambassador says in the statement.
‘This incident shows just how long and complicated the road is to a negotiated settlement of the Karabakh conflict. As France’s ambassador to Armenia I can only wish that the parties, in the days and weeks to come, refrain from verbal escalations and all types of provocations, and that they return to the dynamic of dialogue launched at Sochi, Newport and Paris and facilitated by the Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” his statement reads.
The ambassador says also that confidence building measures are needed now more than ever. The Nov. 12 strike was the first time an aircraft was shot down in the conflict zone since the cease-fire, established in 1994. Armenia’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Azerbaijan “grossly violated” its commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict following recent talks between the two countries’ presidents. -0-
