YEREVAN, July 26. /ARKA/. Increase in public transport fare in Yerevan will only help keep the field ongoing, but not raise the service level, head of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliament faction Galust Sahakyan said, as quoted by Novosti-Armenia.

The increase of public transport fare fr om 100 to 150 drams under a municipality decision raised a wave of discontent among the residents of the capital. The main motto of the protesters is “Won’t pay 150 drams.” Another campaign is called Free Car wh ere famous showmen, politicians and journalists give a lift to Yerevan residents for free.

Armenian minister of justice Hrayr Tovmasyan said passengers’ refusal to pay the new fare is not illegal.

According to Sahakyan, transport is one of the most important economic sector, but not a field of minibus route owners. The deputy refuted the information he is one of this owners saying the only route he has is the political one.

The head of the faction also said protesters should aim not at reducing the fare, but at having government support for socially vulnerable groups.  –0--
