Iran and Armenia ready to create conditions in the sphere of transit cargo transportation - Iranian minister

YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. Iran and Armenia are ready to create favorable conditions for transit cargo transportation, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated in Yerevan.
"We discussed the construction of a second bridge over the Araks River to facilitate cargo transportation. Iran expressed its support for the 'Crossroads of Peace' project, which will create opportunities to further develop relations between the two countries," he said during a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan.
Mirzoyan, in turn, emphasized the importance of economic cooperation and the mutual intention of both countries to enhance it. "In 2024, trade turnover between Armenia and Iran exceeded the figures of the past five years. The possibility of increasing trade turnover to $3 billion annually was discussed," Mirzoyan said.
He also noted that Iran is participating in the implementation of strategically important projects in Armenia. For instance, an Iranian company is constructing a 32-kilometer section of the Kajaran-Agarak highway, which is a key component of the 'Crossroads of Peace' project. "Thus, Iran not only welcomed this project of ours early on but is also actively participating in its implementation," Mirzoyan emphasized.
Earlier, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated that Iranian companies are carrying out projects in Armenia worth $460 million. Specifically, a consortium of Iranian companies – Abad Rahan Pars International Group and Tunnel Sadd Ariana – is the contractor for the construction of the 32-kilometer section of the Agarak-Kajaran road.
