Khachckar erected in Brest as tribute to Armenians who had contributed to liberation of Belarus in World War II
YEREVAN, July 3. /ARKA/. A khachckar, Armenian gravestone with a cross engraved on it, is erected in Brest, Belarus, as tribute to Armenians who had contributed to liberation of Belarus in the World War II, Eduard Sharmazanov, deputy speaker of the Armenian National Assembly told journalists on Friday.
The khachkar was unveiled in the presence of the Armenian National Assembly members who traveled to Minsk on Saturday for three days to attend the ninth session of the Armenian-Belarusian inter-parliamentary commission.
MP Artsvik Minasyan, on his side, said the Armenian community in Belarus considers the erection of the memorial as a landmark event that will contribute to its consolidation.
Some 60,000 Armenians had fought for liberation of Belarus, and 15,000 Armenians had fallen in regular troops' battles and in guerilla warfare. ---0----
