Latest data say voter turnout in May 6 polls is 62.33 percent

YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. According to the latest, specified data of the Central Election Commission, some 1,572,518 Armenians or 62.33 percent of all eligible voters, went today to polling stations to elect a new parliament.

Central Election Commission chairman Tigran Mukuchyan said in Yerevan 483,692 people voted, 59.43% of all voters in the capital city.
He said the voter turnout in Aragatsotn province was 69.16 % (78,587), in Ararat province it was almost 71% (150,488), in Armavir it was 56.11% (124,983), in Gegharkunik – 66% (122,963), in Lori – 59.12% (139.741), in Kotayk –64.28% (148,821), in Shirak - 57.32% (131,090), in Syunik – 72% (87,666), in Vayots Dzor – 64.61% (18,468) and in Tavush -66% (71,365).
Eight parties and one electoral bloc -- the Republican Party of Armenia, Bargavach Hayastan (Prosperous Armenia) and Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law), the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), Zharangutyun (Heritage), which has a combined list with Free Democrats, the Armenian National Congress (electoral bloc), the Democratic Party of Armenia, the Armenian Communist Party and the United Armenians party are vying for 131 seats in the National Assembly. Armenia’s parliament consists of 131 deputies (41 deputies are elected under the majoritarian system (single-mandate constituencies) and 90 under the proportional representation system (by party lists). To enter the National Assembly, political parties need to overcome the 5% threshold. The barrier for alliances is 7%. Forty-one majoritarian seats are being contested by 137 candidates. -0-
