Ministers of Armenia’s Foreign Affairs, Defense and Emergency Situations to be appointed soon- Sharmazanov

Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Emergency Situations of Armenia will be appointed in a couple of days, Eduard Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of the parliament, spokesman for Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) , told the journalists after the sessions of the Executive Body and RPA Council on Saturday.

YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Emergency Situations of Armenia will be appointed in a couple of days, Eduard Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of the parliament, spokesman for Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) , told the journalists after the sessions of the Executive Body and RPA Council on Saturday. 

The other Cabinet members will be appointed within the statutory terms, according to him. 

He said that Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan nominated Tigran Sargsyan’s candidacy for the post of a Prime Minister, that was unanimously supported by the Executive Body and RPA Council. 

On May 31, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan accepted the Cabinet’s resignation. In the former Cabinet, Minister of Foreign Affairs was Edward Nalbandyan, Defense- Seyran Ohanyan, Emergency Situations- Armen Yeritsyan.

According to the Constitution of Armenia, the President appoints a new Prime Minister within ten days after approving the government’s resignation. The new government is formed within twenty days after the appointment of a new Prime Minister.

Sharmazanov also noted that the National Assembly will discuss the program of the new government later in June. 

“It is logical that the majority of ministers will remain the same, however, the final decision will be made by the Party,” he said. 
He also confirmed that Orinats Yerkir Party will receive three Minister’s portfolios in the new Cabinet. 

The Republican Party of Armenia and Orinats Yerkir have signed a coalition memorandum.

The Republican Party of Armenia won the majority of votes, receiving 44.02% (664, 440 votes). The Prosperous Armenia Party received 30,12% of votes (454, 673 votes) and 37 seats (28 under proportional, and 9- popular vote) in 131-seat parliament The third place was given to opposition block Armenian National Congress- 7.08% (106, 903).

Five-percent barrier was overcome by oppositional Heritage (5.76% or 86, 998 votes) and Dashnaktsutyun (5.67% or 85, 550) as well as 
coalition Otinats Yerkir – 5.51% or 83, 123 votes.--0—
