Ministry of Internal Affairs expands cooperation with EU on visa liberalization
YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. The cooperation between the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the EU Delegation to Armenia is both effective and strategic. This was stated by Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan during a meeting with the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Vassilis Maragos.
She outlined a number of projects implemented as a result of the cooperation, including both the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and efforts to improve its subordinate services. For his part, Maragos expressed his willingness to further expand cooperation, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service.
Current and planned programs, possible areas of cooperation with special emphasis placed on measures to liberalize the Armenia-EU visa regime were discussed during the meeting.
Sargsyan discussed the planned roadmap and specific activities. An agreement was reached to expand cooperation in the area of institutional reforms within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Earlier, the head of the Migration Service, Arsen Ghazaryan (now Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia), announced the upcoming start of consultations between Armenia and the European Commission on visa liberalization. According to him, the Armenian side will provide the necessary information, on the basis of which European Commission specialists will develop a program for Armenia.
Armenia-EU Cooperation
The Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which took about 3 years to ratify, entered into force on March 1, 2021.
In September 2024, the EU-Armenia Visa Liberalization Dialogue was officially launched, and work is underway on a new comprehensive document titled the ‘’New Partnership Agenda.’’-0-
