Mnatsakanyan informs ICRC President about war crimes committed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh people

Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met Friday with Peter Maurer, the President of the ICRC in Geneva, the press service of the Armenian foreign ministry reports.

YEREVAN, October 30. /ARKA/. Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met Friday with Peter Maurer, the President of the ICRC in Geneva, the press service of the Armenian foreign ministry reports.
The situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone resulting from the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan was discussed at the meeting.
According to the ministry’s press service, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan provided detailed information to the ICRC President Peter Muerer about the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh as well as the gross violations of international humanitarian law, including Geneva Conventions.
Mnatsakanyan briefed Maurer on the facts of deliberate targeting of civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh by the Azerbaijani armed forces and the following damages, the use of weapons prohibited by international conventions against the population of Artsakh, the humiliating treatment, torture and murder of prisoners of war and civilians under their control.
The minister stressed that human rights and their protection are universal, regardless of the status of the territory, and any other interpretation in this regard is absolutely unacceptable.
Touching upon Turkey's destabilizing policy in the South Caucasus and its aspirations to turn the region into a hotbed of terrorism, the Foreign Minister stressed that Turkey's direct military involvement in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan and the transfer of foreign terrorist fighters from the Middle East poses a serious threat to regional and international security.
The sides stressed the need for implementation of the agreements on cessation of hostilities reached on October 10, October 17 and October 25, as well as the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
The ICRC President emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts aimed at implementing the ceasefire agreement and the agreement on the exchange bodies of those killed.
War in Artsakh
Since September 27, Azerbaijani troops have been carrying out military aggression along the entire length of the contact line in Artsakh, conducting artillery and rocket attacks, including against civilians and civilian infrastructures. Strikes were also carried out at civilian and military targets on the territory of Armenia.
The Azerbaijani side is supported by the Turkish Armed Forces and the foreign terrorist mercenaries recruited by it. The Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression encounters a decisive rebuff from the Armenian Armed Forces along the entire frontline.
According to the official reports on the Armenian side, Azerbaijan sustains huge losses in manpower. Its death toll since the beginning of the war is 6,854. Also 223UAVs, 16 helicopters and 25 aircraft have been downed as well as 632 armored vehicles and 6 TOS units have been destroyed since the beginning of war. More than 1,110 Armenian servicemen have been killed and several hundred people were wounded. As a result of the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, 39 civilians were killed and 122 wounded in Artsakh.
Since the beginning of the war, there have been three attempts to establish a humanitarian ceasefire. All three agreements, which were reached on October 10 through the mediation of the Russian Federation, on October 17 through France and on October 25 through the mediation of the United States, were violated by Azerbaijan. -0--
