YEREVAN, November 25. /ARKA/. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin states that too little time has passed to assess any new developments in the official position of Yerevan regarding BRICS activities following the summit in Kazan.

“We understand that our Armenian friends need time to closely examine the activities of this intergovernmental club,” Kopyrkin said in an interview with ‘’Izvestia’’.

According to him, the presence of Armenia’s key partners in the BRICS family – besides Russia, these include Iran, India, China, and the UAE – undoubtedly enhances the attractiveness of this platform for Yerevan.

"Azerbaijan and Turkey have also expressed their intention to join it. This allows us to say that the entire South Caucasus feels the pull of BRICS," Kopyrkin said.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Yerevan had no plans to integrate with BRICS. However, he accepted the invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin and participated in the BRICS+ summit, which took place in Kazan from October 22 to 24.

BRICS is an intergovernmental association that includes Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, the UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. The name comes from the English acronym BRICS, referring to the original five members of the organization: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The first summit of the association was held in 2009. At their meetings, BRICS members discuss economic and geopolitical issues and foster cooperation on mutually beneficial projects. -0-
