YEREVAN, March 18. / ARKA /. The National Assembly of Nagorno- Karabakh Republic has hailed today the March 16 referendum in Crimea in a statement saying that the people of Crimea voted to manage their own future on their own.
The statement says that the referendum on the status of Crimea has become another precedent of the right of nations to self-determination, confirming that the principle of territorial integrity of a state takes no longer precedence over the free expression of will of the people.
"Political forces and the parliament of Nagorno-Karabakh deem it necessary to remind that on December 10, 1991 the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, guided by then legislation of the Soviet Union and the fundamental principles of international law, exercised their right to self-determination and used the referendum to favor independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic that was confirmed by the outcome of the December 10, 2006 constitutional referendum," said the statement.
"Given the bitter experience of the war imposed by Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, all the factions and groups of the National Assembly urge the sides to take all possible measures to resolve the situation around Crimea exclusively by peaceful means on the basis of mutual respect ," the statement says. .-0-
