Nalbandian: Armenia and OSCE Minsk group co-chairs interested in changing the status quo of Karabakh

Armenia, as well as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs from Russia, United States and France are interested in changing the status quo of Karabakh, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today at a joint news conference with visiting Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström.

Armenia, as well as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs from Russia, United States and France are interested in changing the status quo of Karabakh, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today at a joint news conference with visiting Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström.
In comments on Azerbaijani side’s allegations that Yerevan tries to maintain the status quo of Karabakh Nalbandian said the responsibility for maintaining the status quo lies with Azerbaijan, ‘because the current status quo can be changed via negotiations in order to reach a peace agreement’.
“Azerbaijan is only exacerbating the tension; it ignores the calls of the co-chairs to confirm its commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue; it is also opposed to the introduction of mechanisms to investigate breaches of the ceasefire regime arguing that such mechanisms would contribute to the preservation of the NKR status quo,’ Nalbandian said.
Nalbandian recalled that Azerbaijan has repeatedly called Minsk Group co-chairs ‘tourists’, ‘Islamophobs’, and dubbing the United States as ‘the ancestral home of corruption.’
"This list can go on and on. The problem is that Azerbaijani authorities believe that by these primitive statements they can blackmail the co-chairs and other peace participants and gain something, ‘ said Nalbandian.
The Karabakh conflict should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means, Margot Wallström said.
According to her, the discussion of the Karabakh problem in Armenia allows to better understand the country's position on this issue.
"We realized that there is no military solution to the Karabakh conflict, and we must do everything possible to prevent its escalation," said Wallström.
"The Karabakh conflict should be resolved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group", she said.-0-
