YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. Edward Nalbandian, Armenian defense minister, commenting in an interview with Radio Liberty on the allegation made by Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani president, about application of chemical weapons by the Armenian side in the Karabakh conflict zone, called it an obviously libelous statement.
He said Nagorno-Karabakh defense ministry has denied it in an appropriate statement and expressed willingness to host an observer mission for proving Baku’s deceit and for seeing crimes committed by Azerbaijan.
The minister stressed that Baku stages such performances to shift the international community’s attention from the facts of major breaches of the international humanitarian law and violation of human rights by Azerbaijan which Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic present to international organizations.
“If Baku indeed seeks revelation of the truth, it should not oppose creation of mechanisms for investigating ceasefire breaches, about which the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are speaking many years and what was upheld again at the Vienna meeting, but it should take effective steps for putting this idea into practice,” Nalbandian said in his interview.
On April 2, 2016, Azerbaijan launched military assaults along the entire perimeter of its contact line with Nagorno Karabakh. Four days later a cease-fire was arranged. --0---
