YEREVAN, September 3. / ARKA /. A spokesman for the Armenian defense ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan, said today there were no prerequisites for large-scale hostilities on Armenian-Azerbaijani border where the situation has been tense over the last few days.
Tens of Armenian villages located on the border have been shelled by Azerbaijani troops. A contract soldier, identified as Hayk Devoyan (born in 1975), was killed in the shoot-out and two civilians were wounded in the province of Tavush.
"There are shootouts, but there are no clear prerequisites for large-scale fighting," said Hovhannisyan. He added that Azeri armed forces fire from various caliber weapons, including 60- and 80-mm grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and snipers. -0-
