Nuland urges ‘competent’ authorities to hand two Azeri saboteurs to Baku

Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland called on ‘competent’ authorities to hand two Azeri saboteurs, sentenced by a court in Nagorno-Karabakh to a lengthy prison term and life in prison respectively for committing grave crimes, to Azerbaijan.

Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland called on ‘competent’ authorities to hand two Azeri saboteurs, sentenced by a court in Nagorno-Karabakh to a lengthy prison term and life in prison respectively for committing grave crimes, to Azerbaijan.
She said that would be viewed as a humanitarian step, Novosti-Armenia reported.
In late December 2014 a court in Nagorno-Karabakh sentenced Dilgam Askerov and Shahbaz Quliyev for life imprisonment and 22 years in prison respectively for illegal border crossing and arms possession, espionage,d kidnapping and killing Smbat Tsakanian, a 17-year-old Armenian resident of the Kelbajar district located between Armenia and Karabakh.
Quliyev and Askerov were separately captured by Karabakh Armenian security forces in July after crossing into Kelbajar district.
‘What happened is a terrible crime, but we urge the authorities to make this humanitarian gesture,» said Nuland. -0-
