YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. The number of oligarchs in the newly elected parliament will decline, Alexander Iskandaryan, political analyst and director of Caucasus Institute, said on Thursday.
“I haven’t counted myself, but read that there are around 76 oligarchs in the current parliament. They make up over half of the parliament. However, according to party electoral lists their number will be shrinking,” he said.
There is a serious struggle going on within the coalition, according to the expert.
“Within the coalition there is a significant struggle not only in the party lists but also between single-mandate candidates. Definitely, amid the oligarchs, only very authoritative figures will enter the parliament,” he said.
If the elections are held safely, Armenia’s political environment can face an absolutely different reality, he added.
“If the elections are held safely, we will have an absolutely different reality, which will not be a revolution though. There is a great difference between the situations, when oligarchs enter the parliament and when they are just represented there,” he said.
The next parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on March 6, 2012. The National Assembly of Armenia is made up of 131 deputies ( 41 deputies are elected by majoritarian electoral system, and 90- by proportional). –0--
