YEREVAN, January 20. /ARKA/. The open court hearing on Giumry killings will be held in Armenia, head of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexandr Bastrikin said at his meeting with Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan today, the presidential press office reported.
On January 12, a family of six was killed in Giumry, near the place where the Russian military base N 102 is deployed. The only survivor six-month Serezha Avetisyan died in hospital yesterday. Russian conscript Valery Permyakov suspected of the killings was detained last Tuesday and admitted to the killings.
Holding an open trial in Armenia will indicate both sides’ commitment to justice, Bastrikin said, as cited by the press office.
The Russian official said they achieved full understanding with the Armenian colleagues, and it is clear now what the Russian agencies should do to assist in the investigation carried out by the Armenian law-enforcers.
All measures taken by the Russian bodies both in the territory of the military base and in Russia have the sole purpose of investigating thoroughly all the circumstances to determine the culprits and to ensure the punishment, Bastrikin said.
Armenia’s president, in his turn, said unprecedented consistency is required in looking into all circumstances of this case.
It is important that the two countries’ law enforcers continue their cooperation and put a logical end to the process, the president said. –0—
