OSCE Minsk group co-chars to discuss Karabakh issue with German officials

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick (USA), Igor Popov (Russia) and Pierre Andrieu (France) will meet in Berlin with German officials, according to the US co-chairman.
YEREVAN, December 11. / ARKA /. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick (USA), Igor Popov (Russia) and Pierre Andrieu (France) will meet in Berlin with German officials, according to the US co-chairman.
"Today, I will fly to Berlin. The co-chairs will meet with German officials to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," Warlick wrote in his Twitter microblog.
The co-chairs had separate meetings with foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the sidelines of the 21st meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE, held in Basel on December 4-5. The co-chairmen are expected to visit the Karabakh conflict region by the end of the year.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict erupted into armed clashes after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s as the predominantly Armenian-populated enclave of Azerbaijan sought to secede from Azerbaijan and declared its independence backed by succeeding referendum. A truce was brokered by Russia in 1994, although no permanent peace agreement has been signed.
Since then, Nagorno-Karabakh and several adjacent regions have been under the control of Armenian forces of Karabakh. Nagorno-Karabakh is the longest-running post-Soviet era conflict and has continued to simmer despite the relative peace of the past two decades, with snipers causing tens of deaths a year. -0-
