YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. A parliament member from the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANK) Nikol Pashinyan has called on his fellow MPs today to observe the basic rules of ethics when speaking to journalists.

His call was prompted by a string of obscene language and insults used by an MP Mher Sedrakyan from the governing Republican Party of Armenia in talking with journalists.

"As a former head of the ad hoc parliamentary committee on ethics and a former journalist with protracted experience, I want to express my concern over this fact and emphasize that journalists are the people who act as a  link between us and the public at large," said Pashinyan.

Pashinyan urged his fellow MPs to observe the rules of decency in dealing with journalists and put an end to this vicious practice, which discredits the parliament and is contrary to MPs ethics.

He was backed by vice-speaker Hermine Naghdalyan from the Republican Party of Armenia, who  also condemned such phenomena.

"We join your statement and condemn such behavior and call to MPs, journalists and all those involved in the political process, to comply with rules of ethics during mutual communication,' said Naghdalyan. -0-
