YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. By a vote of 101 to 8 the Armenian parliament has ratified today an agreement on creation of a unified air defense system in the Caucasus region together with Russia.
Under the agreement Armenia will be able to use Russian warplanes and spy satellites for protecting its airspace. The agreement signed in 2015 December is supposed to deepen joint protection of Armenian air space that has been carried out by the two states since the mid 1990s.
According to Armenian government, integration of Russian and Armenian air defense systems is the logical continuation and development of cooperation between the two allied countries in the field of defense.
The agreement is signed for a period of 5 years, with the possibility of further extension every five years, unless one of the parties notifies through diplomatic ways in writing the other side of its intention to suspend the agreement at least six months before the expiration of the ongoing term. -0-
