YEREVAN, November 21. /ARKA/. Poland’s ambassador to Armenia Zdzisław Raczyński told reporters Wednesday that there is no inconsistency between the European and Eurasian integration courses of Armenia’s foreign policy.
“Please, you should look at it appropriately. The EU unites 27 countries and has a 55-year experience. It is an international organization of a new format established on common values. And when we speak about the EU standards, we do not mean just technical ones, but values and principals in general… The Eurasian Union is just a project. But does anyone know its status, administration, address, where to send a letter or whom to contact,” the ambassador said at a news conference in the National press club in Yerevan.
According to him, there is no need for arguments now, as it is just a project.
“There is no inconsistency between Armenia’s membership to CSTO and collaboration with NATO. Armenia is a CIS member state and is cooperating with the EU, and there is no room for arguments and speculations,” he said.
To establish the Eurasian Union was initiated by the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1994. According to the article of the incumbent president of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, published in Izvestia newspaper in October 2011, the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space, founded by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will be key elements for establishing the Eurasian Union.
Armenia has been a member of the Council of Europe since January 25, 2001. At present, Armenia is cooperating with the EU within the
framework of the Eastern Partnership. It is also negotiating over Association Agreement Armenia-EU. This agreement is targeted at deepening cooperation between Armenia and the European Union in different sphere, such as foreign policy, democracy, economic integration, migration and energy. -0-
