Police should answer for brutality – party leader

The aims of the motor rally run by the Founding Parliament organization on Saturday in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were absolutely not understandable, Aram Sargsyan, leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia, told journalists on Tuesday.
YEREVAN, February 3. /ARKA/. The aims of the motor rally run by the Founding Parliament organization on Saturday in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were absolutely not understandable, Aram Sargsyan, leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia, told journalists on Tuesday.
The organization staged the rally under the slogan ‘The 100th Anniversary without Regime’ demanding the Armenian authorities to resign. Members of the organization say some participants of the rally were bitten by the police as they entered Nagorno Karabakh’s territory.
Sargsyan wonders why the rally was staged in Nagorno Karabakh, not in Armenia, especially given that the republic is in state of war, Novosti-Armenia reports. He also didn’t understand why the police resorted to violence against the rally participants. «Why the rally participants were not stopped yet in Goris [Armenia's territory], warned that their action is not authorized and barred from entering Nagorno Karabakh?» Sargsyan said.
Although the aim of this action is not clear, he said, the police’s reaction to it is less clear. In his opinion, every case of this kind should be investigated, otherwise people will get used to such things and such cases will become commonplace.
Sukias Avetisyan, an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia, sharing Sargsyan’s perplexity over goals of the motor rally, called the incident a provocative act.
He said he wonders why the rally was held in Karabakh, not in Armenia, but along with that, he condemned the police’s brutality saying wrongdoers should answer for their violence. ---0----
