Development of Armenia's new constitution will take 8-10 months - Justice Minister

YEREVAN, April 3. /ARKA/. The development of the text for Armenia's new Constitution will take at least 8-10 months, said Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan.
"This is a complex task that cannot be completed in two or three months; it will require extensive work by specialists. We are talking about 8-10 months. I do not believe the text of the new Constitution will be ready any sooner," Galyan stated during a briefing on Thursday, without providing further details.
She was asked about the demands made by the President of Azerbaijan to Armenia, specifically, to remove the reference to the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia from the Constitution and to begin the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. "Armenia is definitely ready to sign a peace treaty, and I do not consider Aliyev's proposals as preconditions, and I believe the government feels the same way. There is no alternative to peace, and our actions, yes, should be aimed at the ultimate establishment of peace," Galyan responded.
The minister emphasized that the text of the Constitution itself cannot be kept confidential. "At some point, the text of the Constitution will be presented to the public. Every point, every provision will be discussed with representatives of our society," Galyan assured.
She refrained from commenting on the possibility of removing the reference to the Declaration of Independence of Armenia in the new Basic Law. "My personal viewpoint aligns with the position of the Constitutional Court, which has been discussed on several occasions," the minister said.
About the Constitution
Earlier, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan stated that the strategic goal of adopting the new Constitution is the transition from the "relic period" of a nation without a state to the functioning of a state-oriented people.
On March 13, he noted that the discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan do not include the issue of amending the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia or the timing of this process.
At the same time, Pashinyan emphasized that the Constitution of Armenia does not include territorial claims against Azerbaijan or any other country, while the Constitution of Azerbaijan includes territorial claims against Armenia.
