YEREVAN, November 22. /ARKA/. Leader of Prosperous Armenia party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan has made his mind up about running for president, Zham.am reported.
Recently, nomination of Tsarukyan as a PAP or a joint opposition candidacy has been intensely discussed in the public. Experts consider him a strong competitor to the current president Serzh Sargsyan.
“Naturally, important decisions like should not be hasty, made at the last minute. I would say more; myself I have already made the decision. But, I take the advantage of the electoral code and do not voice it for the time being,” Tsatukyan said in his interview to Zham.am.
According to him, it is now the best time for listening to party colleagues and partner parties. Patience, as well as balanced and precise decisions is required today, he said.
PAP position themselves as a moderate liberal centrist party. The party was founded by MP Gaguk Tsarukian, head of Armenian National Olympic Committee and president of Multy Group concern, in 2004.
Before the parliamentary elections, PAP was in the ruling coalition. The party had held four ministerial posts in the previous cabinet and a vice-speaker post in the parliament.
After the parliament elections PAP refused to sign the coalition memo, which was then signed only by Republic Party and Orinats Yerkir confirming their support to joint nominee Serzh Sargsyan. -0-
