YEREVAN, September 26. /ARKA/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia was discussed but it is unlikely to take place this year, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said according to RIA Novosti. He said it is more likely to take place next year.
Earlier today a spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Armenia in the near future. Last week Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Izvestia daily about the intention of the Russian leader to visit Armenia. He said the exact date of the trip was not yet determined.
"Indeed, the possibility of arranging the visit of our president to Armenia was discussed, but specific deadlines were not discussed yet," Ushakov said at a briefing today. He added that the Russian President and Prime Minister of Armenia may have a meeting on the sidelines of a CIS summit later this week in Tajikistan.
Ushakov said also a Eurasian Economic Union summit is to be held in Moscow in December, which will also provide an opportunity for the leaders to talk at least briefly.
He recalled that the latest meeting of Russian and Armenian leaders took place in September in Moscow.
"This year they have met three times already having detailed discussions. Their latest meeting lasted for about three hours," Ushakov said. -0-
