YEREVAN, December 1. /ARKA/. The Republican Party of Armenia will not seek public approval of constitutional reforms at any price, Eduard Sharmazanov, vice-speaker of the Armenian National Assembly and a member of this ruling party's executive board, told journalists on Tuesday.
In his words, Armenian Republicans have always been supporters of parliamentary rule. He doesn't think that the party is too quick in making changes in the Constitution.
Sharmazanov fears the current present half-presidential rule poses horrible threats to the country's security because of possible collision between the interests of the president and the parliament.
In his opinion, the chosen version of the Constitution is most rational.
However, in his words, the Republican Party will not seek positive results in the referendum at all hazards.
He placed it on record that the majority in the National Assembly supported this initiative though adding that the opposition has no sufficient power in the parliament to support its position.
Sharmazanov assured journalists that the aim of Armenian Republicans is to ensure stability and security to Armenia, not to retain power.
The referendum is scheduled for December 6. ---0---
