YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. Armenia’s prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who has announced his resignation today, spoke at a government meeting about how he was going to fight the corruption.
"Corruption has many faces and the fight against it must be consistent and comprehensive. This evil must be tackled fundamentally," he said.
He said working closely with the civil society, the government has prepared a number of legislative initiatives to combat corruption.
One of them calls for criminalization of illicit enrichment by senior officials, penalties for defective declaration of income, identifying the real owners of private companies involved in public procurement, as well as restrictions on cash transactions.
"We planned to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session in October for the final adoption of the entire legislative package. This package of bills in my opinion, is the best tool that the next government can use to start the consolidation of our polarized society," said Abrahamyan. -0--
