YEREVAN, October 5. /ARKA/. Sources from the Armenian authorities don’t rule out that Karen Karapetyan, Armenian prime minister, along with nonpartisan ministers will join the Republican Party of Armenia at the next assembly of the party scheduled for November 26, Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) reports.
According to the newspaper, if Karapetyan becomes a member of the party, he may find himself in the party’s board and may become the vise president.
According to some sources, the premier is dragging his feet in joining the party, but the party elite expect this very step from him.
If Karapetyan doesn’t join Armenian Republicans this year, he will do it the next year before the parliamentary elections, for sure.
The newspaper asked the party press secretary, Eduard Sharmazanov, if the premier has been offered the party membership.
Answering the question, Sharmazanov said that this is a matter of discussion by the party and Karapetyan.
“There is time before November 26,” he said. “This day will come, and there will be nothing surprising if he join the party and will be nothing surprising if he won’t do that. Regardless of whether he is our fellow partisan or not, he is a member of our political team.” --0----
