Russia waits for response: Zakharova on delay in opening of Russian consulate in southern Armenia
YEREVAN, 27 November. /ARKA/. The situation with the opening of the Russian consulate in Armenia's Kapan has not changed, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
‘We have repeatedly commented on this issue. Unfortunately, the situation has not changed. The Armenian side gave its consent in principle to the opening of the Russian Consulate General in Kapan. We have requested an exequatur for the consul general. Accordingly, we are waiting for an answer,’ Zakharova said, when asked about the reasons for the delay in opening the consulate in southern Armenia.
In October 2023, Armenia agreed to opening a Russian consulate in Kapan (the administrative centre of Syunik province bordering Iran and Azerbaijan). Subsequently, in November, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation signed an order exchanging notes with the Armenian government on this issue.
Russia has a consulate in Gyumri (the administrative centre of Shirak province, bordering Turkey). -0-
