YEREVAN, January 21. /ARKA/. Moscow will try to influence development of cooperation between Armenia and Iran, Vardan Bostanjyan, an economist, is quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying Thursday at a news conference.
On January 17, the European Union and the United States said that sanctions against Iran are lifted. The statement came after the IAEA confirmed the fact of Tehran’s compliance with all their demands.
“Armenia should pursue a very smooth policy in the process of development of its cooperation with Iran,” Bostanjyan said. “Our country depends on Russia, and in this context Moscow is unlikely to be happy with the strengthening Armenia-Iran cooperation.”
In his opinion, Russia will agree to the cooperation between Armenia and Iran which will not make the Armenian side stronger.
“The lifting of sanctions from Iran is for sure positive phenomenon, particularly for Armenia,” the economist said. “Cooperation with Iran is very important to us, since this country is our indirect neighbor.”
Bostanjyan said that Iran is a bottomless market for Armenia. He added that Iran has much energy and strategic resources.
“I see no problems in the economic aspect which could hinder Armenia in taking advantage of all processes in Iran,” he said. ---0----
