A Russian diplomat has urged the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to demonstrate restraint and avoid actions that would lead to escalation of tension.
YEREVAN, March 5. / ARKA /. A Russian diplomat has urged the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to demonstrate restraint and avoid actions that would lead to escalation of tension.
The situation in the Karabakh conflict zone remains unstable, Alexander Lukashevich, a representative of the Russian foreign ministry, told a briefing today. He said the heightened tension at the beginning of the year was followed by a relative calmnessl in the second half of February, ‘however, the early March reports indicate another round of tension which, unfortunately, resulted in casualties.”
He said the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk held a monitoring at the line of contact on February 20 and a corresponding report will be prepared.
“I think more detailed information about the state of affairs can be received from the participants of the monitoring,” he added.
“We called on the parties to show restraint and avoid actions that could lead to the growth of tension. We have urged them to remain committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict as declared at the Sochi Summit on August 10, 2014,” Lukashevich said.-0-
