YEREVAN, August 21. / ARKA /. The Russian Embassy in Armenia said its employees have no relation to an Aug. 17 incident near the embassy involving security officers and several Armenian citizens.

"Media reports that some persons tried to illegally enter or throw some objects into the embassy’s territory  do not correspond to reality," the embassy said  in a statement.

Armenian police said Monday they were investigating an attempt to enter the territory of the Russian Embassy in Yerevan. They said  late on Saturday evening several people attempted g to get into the specially protected area of the Russian Embassy, entering into a  fray with the security guards  and did not obey their lawful demands.

About an hour later civil activists Melik Daveyan, Karen Arakelyan and Gor Harutyunyan were taken to police on suspicion of committing these illegal acts. They were participating in multi-day protest in front of the Yerevan City Hall, located near the Russian embassy, demanding the resignation of a number of municipality officials responsible for public transportation of the capital. All three refused to give explanations. -0-
