Russian foreign minister condemns attempts to politicize tragedy in Armenia's Gyumri
YEREVAN, January 21. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking Wednesday at a news conference, condemned attempts to politicize the family killing in Gyumri, Novosti-Armenia reports referring to RIA Novosti.

«We see attempts to politicize this situation, and these attempts come neither from Armenian nor from Russian authorities,» he said. «There are many people who want to use this tragedy to gain some geopolitical advantages. This is disgusting, this is not acceptable, this is alien to the proud Armenian people.»

On January 12, Armenian law-enforcement bodies said a Russian soldier, Valery Permyakov from the Russian military base in Gyumri was suspected of killing a couple, their son and daughter-in-law, a two-year-old granddaughter, and an unmarried daughter. They all were found shot dead in their house on January 12. The couple's six-month-old grandson died this Monday in a hospital. Valery Permyakov was detained on January 13, shortly after midnight, while trying to cross the border into Turkey dressed in civilian clothing. He confessed his guilt and will face trial in Armenia’s territory

«We will do whatever is possible to punish severely those guilty of this crime, and we'll make every effort to prevent such incidents in the future,» Lavrov said adding that relations between the two countries will not be affected by this situation. ---0----
