Russian foreign minister says Permyakov’s trial will be as transparent as possible

Speaking at an annual press conference to sum up the results of Russia's diplomatic work in 2014, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the trial of Valery Permyakov, a Russian soldier from the Russian military base in Armenia, accused of killing a family in the city, would be as transparent as possible.

YEREVAN, January 21, /ARKA/. Speaking at an annual press conference to sum up the results of Russia's diplomatic work in 2014, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the trial of Valery Permyakov, a Russian soldier from the Russian military base in Armenia, accused of killing a family in the city, would be as transparent as possible.

“We confirm that the trial will be held on the territory of Armenia, it will be fully transparent and joint. I am sure that the court will issue an unbiased and adequate verdict, adequate to the terrible crime committed”, Lavrov told at the press conference.

Lavrov referred to the Gyumri tragedy as a “horrifying crime” and reiterated Moscow’s deepest condolences regarding the matter.

Seryozha Avetisayn, the six-month boy that died a week after  the killing spree, was buried today. Priests sang hymns for the infant,  while thousands of   mourners threw handfuls of earth onto his grave in  Gyumri. Six members of the boy's family were found dead on January 12 at their home near Russia's military base in Gyumri.

The boy, who suffered multiple stab wounds, died on January 19 at a Yerevan hospital. The requiem service for the boy was chaired  on Tuesday in Gyumri by Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian, the head of the local diocese of the Armenian Church.  

Thousands of people came to say the farewell to the infant who lay in state in a tiny open coffin at Gyumri's Surp Nshan Church. Some people placed flowers and toys around the white coffin.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian.A requiem was served for the boy also at a Russian church located inside the military base.-0-
