YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. Russia’s military officials consider Armenia as ally and key partner in the South Caucasus, Anatoly Antonov, Russian deputy defense minister, told journalists on Tuesday.

“We are successfully cooperating in a bilateral mode and in international organizations, first of all in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, where Armenia holds chairmanship this year,” he said.

Antonov is quoted by TASS as saying that the high level of interaction between the two countries’ military ministries allows solving current cooperation problems and reacting to changes in the region on time.

In his words, there are more than 50 agreements between the countries’ military authorities and they continue developing legislative basis.

“Decision-making mechanisms are shaped and working effectively in security area and a joint military planning is being implemented,” the deputy minister said.

He also said that preparations for signing an agreement to create Russian and Armenian joint troops have reached their final stage. ---0-----
