YEREVAN, April 28. / ARKA /. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev conveyed words of sympathy  to his Armenian counterpart Hovik Abrahamyan  in connection with the centenary of the Armenian Genocide marked on April 24, Interfax reported.

"These days, we remember the victims of one of the most dramatic events in the history - the Armenian genocide. We mourn the dead killed a century ago as a result of massive repression in the Ottoman Empire," his letter  says.

The Russian prime minister says there is no justification to crimes against humanity and civilization.

"Our duty is to cherish the truth about this terrible tragedy and do everything that the horrors of the past never happen again,"  he says.

Medvedev noted that the importance of these events were highlighted by the genocide commemorative ceremonies in Yerevan.

"On behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation and myself I convey to you and to all citizens of Armenia the words of sympathy and empathy. We share your sorrow and pain.  May future generations always live in peace and harmony," his letter says. -0-
