YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. Tehran hopes that problems in supply of S-300 air-defense systems by Russia will be solved soon through negotiation, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tuesday in Yerevan.

“We welcome negotiations between Iranian and Russian defense ministers and hope that the problem will be solved via negotiation,” he said at a joint news conference with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandyan.

Zarif also stressed that Russia is an important partner to Iran. “We will continue developing cooperation with Russia.” On January 20, when Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu visited Iran, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between the two countries.

Leonid Ivashov, the president of the International Center for Geopolitical Analyses and former chief of the Russian defense ministry’s division for international cooperation, said that the agreement will have a favorable effect on development of military cooperation between the two countries and on resumption of negotiation over supply of S-300 air-defense systems. --0-----
