YEREVAN, April 11. /ARKA/. In an interview with ilur.am Armenia's first post-Soviet president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who served in 1991-1998, spoke about why he suggested that he and the current president Serzh Sargsyan meet to discuss Armenia’s response to the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The meeting was held on April 9 at Ter-Petrosyan's private residence. According to the presidential press office, Sargsyan and Ter-Petrosyan spoke for about an hour.

In the interview Ter-Petrosyan says there is nothing mysterious, as he is an advocate of open politics and has nothing to hide from the public.

In his words, he sent Serzh Sargsyan a hand-written letter on April 5, saying; "Serzh, do not you think that if we have a meeting in the current situation, it would be accepted optimistically by the society, by the Armenian people and the international community? The meeting, naturally, will focus on how to come out of this situation with honor and without political losses. I would like to also discuss the practicability of the idea to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic by Armenia and the signing of a mutual military assistance agreement between Armenia and NKR.'

According to Ter-Petrosyan, as Serzh Sargsyan was scheduled to visit Germany, he called him to tell  the meeting could be held after his return. And so it happened. -0-
