The text of Pan-Armenian declaration on centenary of Armenian genocide handed over to UN secretary general

YEREVAN, March 12. / ARKA /. On March 11 Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to hand over the text of the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide, translated into all the official languages of the UN. 

Mnatsakanyan was quoted as saying by Armenian foreign ministry that the Declaration aims at the reinforcement of the universal fight against genocides.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan was said to have briefed the UN Secretary General on the events dedicated to the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide, emphasizing their importance in terms of reinforcing the efforts aimed at prevention of genocidal acts 

He praised the UN’s key role in preventing genocides and stressed its significance as an international structure based on universal and moral values. 

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan informed Ban Ki-Moon on “Aurora” Award officially launched in New York on March 10 as part of “100 LIVES” initiative, dedicated to the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide. 

The two men were said to have also exchanged views on regional issues, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and ways of their resolution. 

The Secretary General reiterated the UN support to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. Ambassador Mnatsakanyan stressed the importance of confidence-building measures, namely the withdrawal of snipers from the line of contact, and creation of mechanisms for investigating the border incidents. The ambassador voiced also concern over Azerbaijan’s failure to accept the proposals of the Co-Chairs.-0-
