YEREVAN, November 25. /ARKA/. Turkey is unlikely to run such a risk of undertaking any offensive against Armenia, Mikhail Aleksandrov, political analyst and leading expert at the Moscow National Institute for International Relations, said in an interview with Novosti-Armenia.
He thinks the escalation of tension triggered by the Russian jet shot down by Turkey near the Turkish-Syrian border theoretically may move to Caucasian region, but it is difficult to predict something certain.
“The only thing that may happen is escalation of tension over Karabakh, but it should be understood that Aliev [Azerbaijani president] is an independent player and it will not dance to Turkey’s pipe," Aleksandrov said. "A direct attack on Armenia would be possible only if a war broke out between Russia and Turkey.”
If such a war begins, Turkey will be not able to hold on long against Russia’s troops.
Russia’s military base #102 is deployed on the Armenia-Turkey border. In August 2010, Russia and Armenia prolonged the validity of the agreement on the Russian base’s presence in Armenia until 2044. --0---
