U.S. ambassador finds Armenian government’s crackdown on corruption effective

The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, speaking Thursday at an online news conference, rated highly Armenia’s achievements in its struggle against corruption.
YEREVAN, February 12. /ARKA/. The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, speaking Thursday at an online news conference, rated highly Armenia’s achievements in its struggle against corruption.
He said he has noticed a progress in this area, especially in provision of services to citizens.
In his words, he has heard from citizens that it is becoming easier to receive such services without bribes and other means of influence.
He also pointed out that Armenia has significantly improved its indicators on companies’ activities and tax and customs duty payment in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ report.
Armenia was 153rd in 2012, while in 2015 it came 41st in Doing Business ranking.
Mills said this gives ground for pride, but noted that unequal competition problems remain unsolved.
He said he is aware of Armenians’ determination to combat corruption and voiced willingness to support them in their struggle. ---0---
