YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills rated positive Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents’ meeting in Vienna and found their commitment to meet in June for further discussion very important.

Serzh Sargsyan, Armenian president, and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev met Monday in Vienna for the first time after the four-day war in April. OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs as well as Russian, U.S. and French foreign ministers were present at the meeting. They agreed to maintain ceasefire agreements of 1994 and 1995. They also agreed to meet again.

The U.S. ambassador said that the word of the presidents’ willingness to meet against gives grounds for optimism.

“I think that the news received from Vienna on Monday was very positive,” he said. “It was an achievement that the two sides confirmed their commitment to the establishment and strengthening of the 1994 and 1995 ceasefire agreements.”

Mills expressed hope that the meeting will produce positive results and will contribute to the comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

On April 2, 2016, Azerbaijan launched military assaults along the entire perimeter of its contact line with Nagorno Karabakh. Four days later a cease-fire was arranged. --0---
