United States ready to make further efforts for enhancing relations with Armenia, Victoria Nuland

The United States is ready to make further efforts for enhancing its relations with Armenia, US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said today in the Armenian capital during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

YEREVAN, February 18. / ARKA /. The United States is ready to make further efforts for enhancing its relations with Armenia, US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said today in the Armenian capital during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

Minister Nalbandian was said to have praised the friendly partnership between Armenia and US, 'which has been expanding year after year embracing new areas.' 

They were said to have also discussed the current status of political dialogue between the two countries and bilateral cooperation in international markets.

Nalbandian and Nuland noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-American partnership includes such important issues as international and regional security, peacekeeping, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and fight against terrorism. Nuland expressed appreciation of Armenia’s active involvement in international peacekeeping missions.

Nuland was said to point out Armenia’s achievements in strengthening of democracy and civil society and implementation of economic reforms.

The parties also touched upon the prospects of development of Armenian-American economic cooperation, implementation of joint projects and promotion of investment. In this context, they emphasized expansion of the legal framework, including development of the Framework Agreement on Trade and Investments between Armenia and the United States.

The two sides welcomed the entry into force on 1 January of this year, the agreement on visa facilitation, concluded in 2013. The sides also exchanged views on major international and regional issues, including, the Ukrainian crisis and processes in the Middle East.

On Nagorno-Karabakh peace process the sides spoke for making every possible effort towards exclusively peaceful settlement of the problem based on the principles of non-use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity and the right of peoples to self-determination. 

Armenian Foreign Minister asked Nuland to convey his greetings and good wishes to US Secretary of State John Kerry and reconfirmed his invitation to Kerry to visit Armenia.-0-
