US urge to recognize the mass killings of Armenians in Turkey, but avoid “G” word

The US administration intends to take the advantage of the centennial of the Armenian massacres in Ottoman Empire to urge a full acknowledgement of the facts, the US National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said on Tuesday, Novosti-Armenia reported referring to RIA Novosti.

The US administration intends to take the advantage of the centennial of the Armenian massacres in Ottoman Empire to urge a full acknowledgement of the facts, the US National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said on Tuesday, Novosti-Armenia reported referring to RIA Novosti.
Armenia is commemorating the centenary of the genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in 2015. High-ranking officials and delegation from various countries are expected to arrival to pay tribute to the victims of the genocide on April 24.
President Obama’s Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes received on Tuesday the leaders of the Armenian Assembly of America and the Armenian National Congress of America to discuss commemoration events on the centenary of the crime against Armenians, Meehan said.
She also said the officials stressed the US would take the advantage of the centenary “to urge a full, frank and just acknowledgement of the facts” that is in the interest of both parties.
The US acknowledge the fact of the mass killings of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey, yet avoid calling them genocide. –0--
