Voter turnout in elections to Yerevan Council of Elders was 13.92% as of 2 pm - CEC
YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. As of 2 pm September 17, only 114,759 people or 13.92% of the total number of eligible voters voted in the elections to Yerevan Council of Elders, a Central Election Commission member Silva Markosyan announced.
According to CEC data, in the Achapnyak administrative district only 13.83% of voters cast their ballots, in Avan - 15.66%, in Arabkir - 15.01%, in Davitashen - 15.61%, in Erebuni - 11.83%, in Kentron - 14.37%, in Malatia-Sebastia - 12.78%, in Nor-Nork - 14.55%, in Nork-Marash - 15.88%, in Nubarashen - 12.57%, in Shengavit - 13.2% and in Kanaker-Zeytun - 14.91%.
For comparison, Silva Markosyan cited the data of the previous elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders, held on September 23, 2018, when as of 14:00, some 201,268 people participated in the voting that year, which was s 23.72% of the total number of voters. The electoral registry of the capital includes 824,250 residents of the capital.
Thirteen political parties and one bloc are contesting in the elections. The party or the bloc that wins the election will nominate a candidate for the post of mayor.
The latest public opinion call conducted by the Armenian Office of Gallup International Association shows that that 22.5% of respondents in the capital Yerevan are going to vote for Civil Contract Party’s mayoral candidate Tigran Avinyan.
Another 14.3% plan to vote for Hayk Marutyan, the candidate of the National Advancement party, who already served as mayor of Yerevan. Also, 7.8% are ready to vote for the candidate from Mother Armenia bloc Andranik Tevanyan.
The outgoing Council of Elders was elected on October 10, 2018. Its term expires on October 10, 2023. --0--
