Yerevan to host second command drills of CRRF

Armenia’s capital Yerevan will host May 22-25 the second command drills of еру Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). A meeting of a working group chaired by secretary of Armenian National Security Council, Artur Baghdasaryan, discussed today a set of issues concerning СRRF drills ‘ Interaction 2012 scheduled in Armenia for September 3-8. The working group was set up by Armenian president. It had its first meeting in February. The preparations for the drills are being steered by Armenian defense minister.

YEREVAN, May 22, /ARKA/. Armenia’s capital Yerevan will host May 22-25 the second command drills of еру Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). A meeting of a working group chaired by secretary of Armenian National Security Council, Artur Baghdasaryan, discussed today a set of issues concerning СRRF drills ‘ Interaction 2012 scheduled in Armenia for September 3-8. The working group was set up by Armenian president. It had its first meeting in February. The preparations for the drills are being steered by Armenian defense minister.
The CRRF was set up to repulse military aggression, conduct anti-terrorist operations, fight transnational crime and drug trafficking, and neutralize the effects of natural disasters. The force is permanently based in Russia and placed under a single command, with CSTO member countries contributing special military units. The total number of CRRF is estimated at 20,000 people, of whom half are Russian soldiers. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a security grouping comprising the former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. -0-
