Zakharova: Russia welcomes Armenia's intention to resolve the issue of failed weapons supplies through partnership
YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova welcomed today Armenian government's intention to refrain from taking the issue of failed Russian arms supplies to a court and resolve it through partnership.
Armenia’s Deputy Defense Minister Hrachya Sargsyan said on Monday that Russia failed to supply $400 million worth weapons and other military equipment under bilateral defense contracts signed after the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Sargsyan said the Armenian side still hopes that the issue will be solved 'through our partnership.”
In late November PM Nikol Pashinyan said the two sides were looking into the issue and one of the options under consideration was for Russia to write off part of Armenia’s debt to it in exchange for failed weapons deliveries.
"We can only welcome Yerevan's intention. We understand that the Russian Defense Ministry has a similar approach to this issue," Zakharova said.
According to Konstantin Zatulin, first deputy head of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Russia delayed arms deliveries to Armenia because of the special operation in Ukraine. -0-
