Contest on design of 12th station of Yerevan subway will be announced later in May

YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. A competition for the design of the new 12th station of the Yerevan Metro (Surmalu station) is set to be announced by the end of May.

On May 5, Yerevan Mayor’s Advisor Anneta Babayan shared updates during a working meeting at the mayor's office. She mentioned that a public investment program has already been drafted, and it will be submitted to the government for discussion this week. Once they secure the funding source, the design work is expected to begin.

Babayan noted that the parameters for the tender have been established, taking into account feedback from several international consultants.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan indicated that the municipality would fund the design work, with approximately 400 million drams (around $1 million) set aside in the community budget for 2025.

As for the location of the Surmalu station, it is not yet clear, but it is expected to be situated between the existing Sasuntzi David and Zoravar Andranik stations. This will provide improved access to the Surmalu and Petak shopping centers and Sevan Street, offering an alternative mode of urban transport that aims to ease traffic in the surrounding area.-0-
