On Tuesday, Armenian National Assembly passed at the first reading the bills on the National Academy of Sciences and on scientific and technical activities.

YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/. On Tuesday, Armenian National Assembly passed at the first reading the bills on the National Academy of Sciences and on scientific and technical activities.

Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan, presenting the bills to lawmakers, said that they had been properly discussed.

“The aim of this package is not only to identify the role of the Academy of Sciences, but also to waken public interest in sciences and experts’ attention to problems in this area,” he said.

The minister said that these versions of the bills were not final – they would undergo many changes proposed by legislators.

The government, he said, is working intensively to improve these versions.

Ashotyan said that the academy’s some functions, such as commercialization results of scientific and innovative activities, contradict a number of norms that regulate activities of governmental noncommercial organizations, including the academy.

The bills imply legal guarantees for the academy’s activities on development of fundamental and applied sciences as well as protection and development of the country’s scientific capacity.

The bills also specify the academy’s structure, regulate activities of scientific organizations and other legal entities and stipulate the way for financing the academy.-0---
