Armenia’s government will support Armenian flag carrier Armavia in flying to Syria to take Armenian children to Yerevan, the company reported Wednesday.

YEREVAN, August 8. /ARKA/. Armenia’s government will support Armenian flag carrier Armavia in flying to Syria to take Armenian children to Yerevan, the company reported Wednesday.
Flights are made in the framework of Diaspora Ministry program.
“On August 9 Armavia will make special Yerevan-Damascus-Yerevan and Yerevan-Aleppo-Yerevan flights according to the plan. The first airplane will fly to Damascus Thursday at 08:00 and fly back at 12:50. Another flight to Damascus, scheduled for August 23, is supposed to be made at the same hours,” according to the message.
Moreover, an additional Yerevan-Aleppo-Yerevan flight will be operated on Wednesday. According to some preliminary data, there will be 105 passengers on Aleppo-Yerevan board.
Armavia has operated six Yerevan-Aleppo-Yerevan flights (five regular and one additional) over a period between July 9 and August 6. The air carrier has brought 593 passengers from Syria’s Aleppo to Yerevan and 131 from Yerevan to Aleppo over one month.

Armavia resumed a regular weekly flight to Syria on July 9 after a more than four-month pause because of worsening security situation in Syria which is home to an estimated 60,000-80,000 Armenians. Syria’s national airline also carries out Aleppo-Yerevan flights on a weekly basis.
The Armenian community in Syria played until recently a significant role in the social, political and cultural life in Syria. -0-
