YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. All hospitals and clinics in Armenia are provided with vaccines against seasonal flu, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported today.
It said that vaccination against seasonal flu is carried out in all polyclinics of the country voluntarily and free of charge. Priority for vaccination is given to people from risk groups in whom the disease may be severe or cause complications.
Risk groups include pregnant women, children from 6 months to 5 years old, people over 65 years old, people with diabetes mellitus, chronic diseases of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, liver, kidneys, medical workers and persons subject to military service as well as people in closed institutions- inmates and employees of orphanages, employees and students of boarding schools, persons working or receiving care in specialized institutions for the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as mental health centers.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that the seasonal flu vaccine does not protect against coronavirus or other acute respiratory infections. It protects against the more common types of influenza in a given season. However, the risk groups for COVID-19 and influenza overlap for the most part.
"For this reason, at-risk groups need to get a seasonal flu vaccine to be protected from the disease and avoid complications," the ministry said. -0-
